Misrepresentative content: Manipulated media | Google Publisher Policies
I work in the Google Policy Transparency team. My role is to
help you better understand our publisher policies and restrictions ,and also
share the challenges you face with our internal teams.
I'll cover the Misrepresentative Content publisher policy, and
in particular, the Manipulated Media subcategory.
Users don't want to be misled by the content they engage with
online. For this reason, we don't allow Google Ads to be placed on sites, pages or
apps that deceive users through manipulated media ,related to politics, social
issues or matters of public concern.
An example of this policy could be a deep fake that
manipulates a media report.
Preserving trust in the digital advertising ecosystem is very
important to us. On the one hand, users must trust that content on a site or app
is legitimate. If the user engages with an ad, it should be through genuine intent
to do so.
Simply put, we don't want users to feel misled by sites or
apps that we help monetise.
On the other hand ,advertisers must trust that publisher content
is acceptable for their brands.
Misleading content can create a negative user association
with the advertisement, and the brand. If you encounter a policy violation and
would like to bring it to our attention, please report it using the form linked in
the description box.
I hope this Article helps you better understand the
Misrepresentative Content policy on manipulated media.
