TikTok Proves U.S. Faces China Tech Competition
You're on the board of Microsoft Greylock also invested in tech talk via musically a few years ago what is your take on the latest turn of events.
Microsoft losing the bad oracle winning the bid, for now, details still to be worked out, and president trump basically forcing the sale. So so obviously you know I can come in as an individual and as an investor, you know you mentioned Greylock investor musically which was bought by a bike and so we're shareholders in my dad's. Look I think that what you're really seeing here is the very first place where
we are now moving into a much more a multi-polar tech will wear that tech companies in China all right only doing services for China right because you know part of the reason why you would use those amazing company Tencent's WeChat and we chat we learn all kinds of things from a psychologist doesn't really had really come over to the U. S. much other than people that work with China out or you know kind of other kinds exposure but I think what we're now going to see is is a technology invented in China with global scope. It is going to be contending with the other you know kind of global tech companies which you know we are in the U. S. have been so lucky for decades to have a kind of a broadly kind of free run and
I think that now the cop it's the ringing of the bell the competitions here personally I don't think that the right response is to kind of go to what kind of a protectionist I do think that there's an issue China does protectionism against on tech industry and how do you balance that out is I think important actually think you'll be building bridges versus walls as I think generally get a pro-business right you know kind of approach as well as a pro-humanity approach but that's not why I kind of look at it and so,
I think it's it's we've heard the first reading of the bow and we've had the first awkward response but what we're gonna see a lot more of is. The companies from China becoming globally competitive so you think that Chinese technology is becoming more of a threat to American technology yes which platforms are gonna stop was the platforms the future because you know when you look at it you said okay you know and a lot of messaging products you know obviously we have tended to make those global messaging products are generally speaking within the west coast of the United States well here you've got this amazing set of technology from you to know kind of a tick-tock that is kind of having how to do you onboard someone and find videos that they want to watch and have them you know kind of being oh my god this is a real-life like the next generation of television and entertainment and how do you do that and tick-tock secured out before any other company or by dense to get up before any other company in the world.
